What a busy month~creating leprechaun traps and writing an opinion piece of writing as to why my leprechaun trap is the best was the highlight so far! We didn't catch any leprechauns but we did get daily surprises from one pesky, mischievous leprechaun named Lucky! On the morning of March 17th, he completely destroyed our classroom and took all of our fools gold, and money!

As a culminating activity for our rocks and minerals unit of study, we had a very noisy and fun time cracking open our geodes! Hammering away we discovered the mineral quartz inside! I am so excited to share with you our amazing expository projects on Emperor Penguins. Each child wrote a 5 paragraph report on the subject with guided support. These reports with attached art work are hanging outside our classroom. Please stop by to visit anytime to see these amazing pieces of writing.
Next, on the Ipads and using the app Book Creator, students worked in small groups to create a project showcasing all they have learned about these creatures. The final projects have blown me away and will be uploaded soon! Thank you to our wonderful room parents and volunteers for making this party such a huge success! The children rotated through 5 centers which included: donuts on a string, word searches, an overflowing snack table filled with orange snacks, to creating beaded indian corn and also decorating a pumpkin sugar cookie. The perfect way to end the month!
We read the book Chrysanthemum and focused on hurtful words. Each time Chrysanthemum's feelings were hurt, we wrinkled the red heart. After we all tried to smooth out the wrinkles but had little success. This lead to an active discussion about how we should always think before we speak and to always remember the "Golden Rule"! Repeated addition, equal groups and arrays are all possible strategies when solving a multiplication problem. We used candy corn, animal crackers and got to write on the teacher table with dry erase markers! "This is fun" was heard over and over again as they began to grasp the concepts! This will be coming home for homework next week!
